ENGLISH SUMMARY: Sleep test – a beginning of a new relationship
Such excitement at the beginning of a new relationship, a whole new phase of life begins! Until all the decisions have been made, a sleep test is a great way to avoid making mistakes. I mean, of course, a relationship to a new home.
That exciting moment of entering a new place and knowing that the proverbial four and usually more walls will be with us through the months and years to come!
After a longer or shorter search for a flat, at some point the time comes, a key experience and all that follows: renovating, planning, moving, furnishing. Living.
In order to be able to plan as reasonably as possible, we resort to various methods – from simple sketches and furniture outlines cut out of squared paper to CAD or 3D programmes, which can perfectly replace imagination.
We always have the choice of adapting rooms for ourselves so that the result is coherent. It doesn’t matter whether the floor plan of the flat says “children’s room/office” or “living”, how-where-what is ultimately up to us. In refurbished flats, the sockets sometimes try to dictate the functions to us, that’s how it is with standards, in old buildings it can also look completely different. Somehow, however, the desired zones can be set, and one of the most important, in my opinion, is the location of the sleeping area.
My ritual in every new living situation, when the new key still looks unfamiliar, is the sleep test. The quality of sleep determines the quality of life, what good is a great office at home if a zombie-like from lack of sleep creature has to drag itself there every morning…?
So when I consider the cardinal points, space, acoustics, Feng Shui, street and courtyard side, connection to the rest of the flat and and and, the idea of where the bed should be located comes to mind.
To confront theory with practice, I always get a sleeping bag and the sleeping mat and with this rudimentary equipment (plus a small lamp, a cup and something to make tea) I spend the first night in this place. It is totally important to remember the dreams, as far as possible.
A feeling in the morning in still such an unfamiliar place is indescribable. To consciously experience the new sounds, light reflections, room climate for the first time…
For me, in any case, it was always positive, the terrain was acquired, I could move on. So far I have also been satisfied with the place where I planned the bed. Based on that, the whole puzzle has come together.
I can highly recommend the ritual, not only because it helps you find an optimal position for the bed: It’s a great way to begin building a relationship with the new place.
